Linkedin is the largest professional social media network. Linkedin allows you to stay connected with your colleagues and classmates while building a professional identity online. This website also gives you the opportunity to discover new job opportunities by finding and searching through other professional businesses. LinkedIn is different than any other social media because it focuses on professional networking unlike Facebook or Twitter where those social medias are more focused on updates on your personal life and your family. Linkedin was founded in 2003 by Reid Hoffman and Allen Blue. Just a few years after this website was created it became the fastest growing online social networks in the world. There are about 347,000,000 registered members and that number is still growing day by day. Linkedin has the power for you to use your existing connections and to make new connections, which could be used to obtain additional connections which can be used for a lifetime. Twitter and Facebook are very helpful for businesses and getting their name out there but LinkedIn goes the extra mile. For example, on Facebook, many people will view your business profile and click the like button but on LinkedIn you will have other people involved in different types of businesses viewing your page that are more relevant and can give you feedback on your business or company. LinkedIn also catches the social aspect of a social media forum. With Linkedin not only can you connect with people you have known through high school, but you can connect with people in the same job field as you. Another social advantage that LinkedIn offers is that you can connect with people that can only help you move forward with your career, whether its a future boss, new staff or clients. There is a very helpful feature that recommends connections to you based on your own connections that can lead you in the right direction of either a new job or clients. LinkedIn contains the entertainment aspect like any other social media as well. You can follow famous people and your favorite tv shows. LinkedIn can also keep you posted on the most updated news just by following your local news accounts or by what other people that you connect with post. The recreational aspect of LinkedIn would be the fact that you are not only making business connections but connecting with your own friends. Your friends can look at your profile and view how successful you are and what you have been doing with your life. Although every fact stated so far has been positive, LinkedIn has some down sides as well. Like any other social media there will be made up accounts just to mess with people, but there is no way to stop that and determine if the information on peoples pages are accurate. LinkedIn is a very useful website to all of those trying to make it in this world, whether you're straight out of college looking for a job or a business person looking for new connections. LinkedIn is for everyone.
